Joe Peach

I’m a built environment professional with a decade of experience in organisations that shape the places where we live, work and play. Previously working in marketing, communications and strategy roles, I’m currently studying an MSc in Real Estate and Planning, building on my industry experience and work managing two property renovations.

As marketing and communications lead (2016-2017) at UK/South Africa mobility startup WhereIsMyTransport I integrated a newly-formed department, undertook a visual and strategic rebrand, and devised content campaigns which secured media coverage in Wired, BBC News and the Guardian.

As online marketing manager (2013-2016) at engineering conglomerate Siemens, I managed the global digital launch of the "Ingenuity for life" brand campaign and supported regional launches in Germany and China.

In 2013 and 2014 I worked with C40 Cities, running digital communications for the Siemens & C40 City Climate Leadership Awards in London and New York. The awards brought Mayors and city leaders together, celebrating best efforts in environmental sustainability. During this time I also managed digital marketing at the Crystal - one of London’s most sustainable buildings and a test case for Siemens technologies.

Between 2009 and 2015 I launched and ran the online urbanism magazine This Big City. I grew the site to eight language editions, thousands of articles and millions of page views, achieving reader-voted awards and extensive social media reach. In 2014, This Big City was named one of the world’s best .net websites by Entrepreneur Magazine and Verisign.

I reported from the Feeding Cities conference in Philadelphia (2013), hosted a panel discussion at the New Cities Summit in Paris (2012), and spoke at the BMW Guggenheim Lab in Berlin (2012) and Cities and Climate Change Summit in Bogota (2012). I have had articles about innovation, sustainability and urbanism published online and in print.

From 2011 to 2013 I worked as a Strategy Consultant at IT multinational IBM, supporting mobility sector clients and consulting internally on social media and graduate recruitment initiatives.

I managed communications projects on a freelance basis (2012-2019) for Oxfam, Daimler, Berkeley Group and other built environment firms. Between 2015 and 2018 I acquired, modernised and sold a three-bedroom property in London, and since 2018 have been renovating a property in Edinburgh.

Outside of work you’ll find me indulging my other interests, which include speciality coffee, reformer pilates and travel. All being well I’ll be graduating in Summer 2020 and looking to continue my career in planning and development in Edinburgh. If you’d like to get in touch, I’d be happy to hear from you.
